Codemakers developers attend Laracon Madrid

A single-day conference to stay on top the latest trends and techniques in our field

Three of our developers attended Laracon EU in Madrid on 23rd May to learn about the latest techniques and trends in Laravel - the PHP development framework we use for most of our web application projects.

The single-day conference attracted around 200 delegates from around the world, providing the ideal opportunity to network with our peers, sharing experiences and validating our own processes and development practices.

Each of the fast-paced talks took on different important aspects of developing contemporary web applications, including developing with security in mind, new ways of writing efficient and maintainable code and understanding more about the underlying framework to get the most out of it and simplify some of the more complex tasks we undertake as developers.

The talks weren’t all about the ‘behind the scenes’ code – we also learned new ways of working with CSS and JavaScript, especially Vue.js, which we will be incorporating into our user interface design and development practices. There was also an interesting talk by Shopify explaining how to apply colour theory to user interfaces to make them more flexible and accessible to a broader audience of users.

Our short stay in Madrid was complemented by some brief sight-seeing in the area we were staying, along with the compulsory sampling of tapas and sherry in one of the city’s longest-running bars.

At Codemakers we value the ongoing professional development of our team and frequently seek opportunities to attend conferences and training events to ensure we remain at the forefront of emerging technologies and techniques in our field. Traveling as a team also gives us the opportunity to get to know each other even better and discuss ways in which we can evolve our working practices to deliver even better results for our clients.
